The Communications Assistant is a non-exempt, full-time staff position which assists management within the department of Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.

The Communications Assistant will provide support to the Marketing and Communications Manager by participating in and assisting with the communication efforts of Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.  Collaborating with the Marketing and Communications Manager, this position will mine stories to convey various perspectives on filmmaking, the student experience, industry related events, educational and career opportunities for web, print and digital platforms to reflect the culture and life at Dodge College.  At the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager, create and produce print, video and digital communication.  With a passion for storytelling and a journalistic desire, continually strive to keep communities informed and engaged. This position can perform other duties as assigned.

This position requires the ability to work some evening and weekend hours to attend events and classes for job-related functions.



The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for the Communications Assistant position.

Specific Job Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using current online social media platforms with familiarity with social media best practices. Proven journalistic, documentary and/or storytelling acumen to engage target audiences. Ability to work on multiple creative assignments in a hands-on fashion at all stages of development, from project start through post.

General Job Requirements: Exceptional writing and communication skills. Ability to demonstrate initiative and follow directions as appropriate for the position level. Team player with a sense of urgency. Tact and diplomacy with the ability to work with highly confidential information. Ability to prioritize own workload and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-oriented environment. Technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems and departmental tools. Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.

Desired: Experience with video editing. Experience in Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge or experience in the creation of podcast content. Basic HTML, WordPress and content management systems such as Cascade. Knowledge of filmmaking process. Still photography experience. Graphic design experience and skills.
