The Staff Accountant is a non-exempt, full-time staff position which assists management within the department of Financial Services.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting activities of assigned financial programs. This position applies an in-depth knowledge of accounting principles to prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.  Working alongside our financial services team, the Staff Accountant designs accounting procedural enhancements to improve operating effectiveness.  This position may provide guidance to Accounting Assistants on a regular basis or on projects of a specialized nature.  Under the direction of the Director of Accounting, the incumbent performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for the Staff Accountant position.

Specific Job Requirements:  A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of three years of experience in account reconciliation, journal entry preparation, and research and resolution of discrepancies at a medium to large size company.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Current working knowledge of developments and trends in accounting best practices. Understanding of relevant rules and regulations governing accounting practices. Familiarity with diverse financial functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and e-Commerce, etc.

General Job Requirements: Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to use applicable information technology and systems to meet work needs. Computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications with an intermediate level of Excel skills. Ability to learn and understand relevant Chapman policies and procedures, and apply them for work. Ability to work independently as well as within a team. Meticulous attention to details and accurate record keeping. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University.

Desired: Experience in using and running queries from PeopleSoft Finance, Campus Solutions or HCM modules.  Proficiency in using PeopleSoft Finance modules. Familiarity in reconciling online payment accounting processes and procedures as well participation in account setup, testing and integration activities.
