Responsibilities:

The Assistant Librarian, Coordinator of Brandman University Library Services for Chapman University is an exempt, administrative position which reports to the Chair of Public Services Division. This position is under the department of Leatherby Libraries.

The Assistant Librarian, Coordinator of Brandman University Library Services provides comprehensive library services for the distributed campuses of Brandman University and Brandman's online programs, including the development and administration of a technology-based virtual library services program. This position manages videoconferencing facilities and serves as liaison with faculty and staff at Brandman campuses. The incumbent assists in the development of the Brandman University library web pages, offers library instruction and reference, and prepare packaged video-based instruction. The position prepares research aids as needed for instruction. Librarians participate in library and university faculty committees and other appropriate activities in support of library service. This incumbent liaisons with other Chapman University librarians in the Leatherby Libraries. The Assistant Librarian performs other duties as assigned.

 

This position maybe scheduled to work evenings and weekend hours as needed.

 

Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for the Assistant Librarian position.

Specific Job Requirements: A.L.A. accredited M.L.S. degree. Demonstrated working experience in reference services and library instruction preferably in an academic library or medium size or larger public library setting. Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions/recommendations. Demonstrated collection development experience and liaison work with faculty. Ability to offer instruction in a distributed environment.

General Job Requirements: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the university. Demonstrated commitment to customer service and working in a team environment. Commitment to professional growth and development. Competence in using electronic information resources, including full-text databases. Technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems and departmental tools. Knowledge of web authoring software and usability issues. Ability to operate hardware/software related to videoconferencing and other digital transmissions.
