Richard Bertea and his wife Hyla have been loyal friends to Chapman since 1968. Richard Bertea became a member of the Board of Trustees in that year and has been very generous with his time, talent and treasure ever since. Both Richard and Hyla are accomplished professionals in their respective fields, aviation and education, and Chapman is fortunate to be a beneficiary of their goodwill. Bertea Hall is a product of that goodwill and was completed in 1975. This building (2 floors, 20,100 sq.ft.) houses Chapman’s internationally recognized School of Music. The Berteas are tremendous jazz fans, declaring Ella Fitzgerald a favorite.
