Responsibilities:

This position will be posted for a minimum of 5 business days and may close at any time after that without prior notice.

Provide for the protection of life and property through motor vehicle, foot, and/or bicycle patrol of University campus roadways, walkways, parking lots, academic buildings, and residential areas. Respond to calls issued via radio and telephone dispatch. Ensure department activity log is updated accurately and timely. Observe for safety hazards and promptly report them to proper persons for correction. Ensure buildings are locked and secure as appropriate and respond to building alarms. Conduct investigations of reported crimes and incidents occurring within jurisdictional boundaries of the University and submit appropriate reports. Testify in court as necessary. Respond to requests for emergency and routine medical assistance as required. Administer first aid and summon additional medical assistance as necessary. Enforce parking regulations in parking lots and other areas as necessary and required. Investigate traffic accidents within the jurisdictional boundaries of the University, prepare accident reports, and enforce laws and regulations per California Vehicle Code. Direct traffic as necessary. Provide directions and other assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as requested and when appropriate. Conduct student safety training, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and disaster preparedness. Perform additional duties as appropriate and assigned. Public Safety is a 24-hour per day operation and the Patrol Officer may be assigned to any available shift, or to rotating shifts.

Valid California driver's license. DMV record check required before and during employment. Continued employment subject to satisfactory DMV records review. Employment subject to satisfactory completion of background check. Must have access to telephone or pager that a message will be received at home in the event of an emergency.

Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations as applicable to Public Safety functions. High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum age requirement is 21. Successful completion of a California PC 832 course or be currently working as a level one, two or three reserve peace officer. Possession of a State of California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services Guard Card and Baton Permit. Current First Aid and CPR certification. Demonstrated ability to timely assess a situation, determine and execute appropriate course of action and maintain a professional demeanor. Ability to effectively operate a motor vehicle under emergency and other Public Safety-related conditions. Accurate, legible and grammatically correct report writing skills. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Ability to complete necessary preparations for criminal case prosecution and to effectively testify in court. Ability to conduct effective safety training. Commitment to customer service and the concept of teamwork. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels. Position requires a willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather. Prior University or College experience/graduation from a POST academy are desirable.
