Responsibilities:

The Associate Director of Annual Giving will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual unrestricted gifts to the university. Constituent groups will include alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, and other friends of Chapman University. Increase the visibility of the university among its constituent pool, research and prospect management, and fundraising for unrestricted gifts. Will be expected to meet individually with a varied and sophisticated pool of prospects (16-20 visits and 4-6 solicitations per month) targeting $1,000-$25,000 gifts. Prepare development reports to evaluate progress toward achievement of quarterly/annual goals. Analyze information to identify trends and patterns. Provide recommendations to Director on strategy improvements. Maintain donor databases and help manage donor stewardship initiatives. Utilize moves matrix system to move prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycle. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor and demonstrate credibility, judgment, honesty, integrity, trust and the ability to motivate others.

May be required to drive personal vehicle to off-campus event/meeting locations. May be required to travel overnight. May be required to maintain flexible work schedule, including some evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Three to five years of experience in prospect and volunteer management, personal solicitations, and affinity group management. Demonstrate understanding of principles and practices of annual fundraising and its role in institutional advancement into strategy. Communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fundraising. Strong organizational and management skills with proven ability in managing prospects, communication plans, special events, travel, and mailings. Strong writing and editing skills including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and grammatically correct business correspondence and other documents. Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise discretion and judgment. Evaluate data, assess alternatives and formulate logical and sound decisions and/or recommendations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the University. Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork. Skill to perform essential calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages. Computer skills in utilizing Word and other Microsoft Office software, the Internet, and electronic mail software. Ability to pay attention to detail. Ability to use standard office equipment, including multi-line phone system, copier, fax, and calculator.

Desired: An understanding of higher education and the ability to build alliances, navigate challenges, think creatively, and work collaboratively. Experience in alumni fundraising and/or event/volunteer coordination. Familiarity with Chapman University.
