Responsibilities:

The Music Library Assistant will provide assistance to the Music Librarian in support of the M. Douglas Library of Music in the Leatherby Libraries and the Conservatory of Music. Responsibilities include assisting in the copy of cataloging of print, non-print, and music scores to include sound recordings, video recordings, books, and online resources, and cataloging materials other than music as necessary, oversee and assist patrons usage of audio-visual equipment and other technologies in the area of enhancement of existing records, develop procedures manuals, track of statistics and prepare accurate and running statistical reports in support of the Music Library. Supervise student assistants and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required: Undergraduate or graduate degree in Music or related field. Demonstrable experience in computer related software and technology skills and also be familiar with LC classification and copy cataloging, MARC records and knowledge of standard music resources in print and/or online. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels from inside and outside of the university. Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Possess the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Ability to work in a self-directed manner with prescribed duties, make appropriate decisions based on sound judgment, policy and guidelines. Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to negotiate and resolve disputes.

Desired: Music background preferred. Familiarity with bibliographic utilities, experience in maintaining statistics, working knowledge of a foreign language such as German, Italian, French, Spanish, applicable academic library and supervisory experience is a plus.
